AutoTuner on Global Growth, SID212 and What Comes Next

By Gavin Fable, Viezu Communications, July 18, 2025

Keeping our tuning network ahead means putting the newest tools and technology in the spotlight. So we recently sat down with Tomaso from AutoTuner, a brand growing fast worldwide, for a wide-ranging chat about tuning: big event appearances, product launches, protocol security and where tuning goes in a changing world. If you use AutoTuner tools now or are weighing them up, there's plenty here for you.

More Than Tools: How AutoTuner Has Grown

AutoTuner has changed a lot in the last few years, growing from a small team of 15–20 people into a full operation of more than 50 staff in Luxembourg and Belgium. That's not just down to demand for its products; it reflects deliberate investment in R&D, support infrastructure and worldwide reach. The Luxembourg headquarters now runs logistics, sales and administration, while much of the technical development and support sits in Belgium, a setup that lets the company react quickly to users and keep delivering new solutions.

Trade shows are central to that growth plan. AutoTuner's recent stand at Automechanika UK was its first official visit to the British market, and the reaction was hugely positive, with face-to-face time with existing users, partners and new customers producing valuable feedback and a chance to show how versatile the platform is. The UK is just one piece, though: before the year ends, AutoTuner is heading to Mexico, Paris, Las Vegas for SEMA, and Dubai. Every new market brings a better grasp of local tuning needs and chances to broaden the toolset's appeal.

SID212: Taking Secure Access Slowly

SID212 ECU access is one of the hottest topics in tuning right now. These ECUs, common in diesel work vehicles, are in big demand for remapping, but AutoTuner hasn't hurried to offer OBD or bench access straight out of the box. Instead it uses a remote unlock service, which means sending the ECU to its Luxembourg HQ.

Tomaso said the main reason is protecting the company's R&D. Unlock protocols take a lot of time and money to develop, and released too freely they could be reverse-engineered by competitors or patched out by OEMs. Handling the process in-house gives AutoTuner more control over how long the solution lasts and keeps it from being short-lived. It also means the protocol is applied safely, which matters for users working on critical vehicles that can't sit idle for long.

An in-tool SID212 solution may come later, but for now the focus is security and reliability. You can still work on SID212 platforms through the remote process, and once an ECU is unlocked, it can be read and written over OBD for future jobs. It's a deliberate choice of longevity over instant convenience.

The One: A New Chapter in End-User Flashing

Another big milestone is AutoTuner's new product, The One, a compact, intuitive device for private users and white-label resale. Previewed at SEMA the year before and officially released in April 2025, it has drawn strong demand from tuners wanting to move into retail with a simple flashing tool customers can use at home.

Its ease of use and flexibility set it apart. The companion app is built for non-technical users with a clear, guided interface, while tuners can brand the device as their own and create a personalized flashing experience, from ECU reading to file upload and installation. It's a scalable way for pros to serve remote customers without tying up shop time.

The plan is to move the main AutoTuner tool's OBD coverage across to The One step by step. That will take a while, since each protocol has to be adapted for safety and hardware compatibility, but work is underway and new applications are expected to arrive steadily through the year. For tuners looking to diversify and build their brand, The One is an attractive new route.

Heavy-Duty, Marine and Ag: What's Ahead?

Right now, AutoTuner's core coverage is cars and light commercial vehicles, where market demand and practical tooling line up best. Tomaso confirmed, though, that there are plans to widen compatibility over time, with marine, heavy trucks and agricultural equipment all on the radar, though each needs careful prioritizing and a lot of R&D.

Building and testing protocols for new vehicle types takes more than technical skill; it demands a deep understanding of market needs, hardware differences and how those vehicles are actually used. AutoTuner's approach is precision over speed, so heavy-duty support may not appear right away, but the company is clearly listening to feedback and ready to move when the opportunity is right.

The Long View: EVs and Staying Relevant

Many tuners wonder whether the shift to electric vehicles will hit the industry. It's a fair worry, but Tomaso believes traditional tuning still has plenty of life left: demand for tuning remains strong worldwide, and in many markets combustion engines will be on the road for decades.

AutoTuner isn't ignoring EVs, either. It hasn't announced any electric vehicle solutions publicly yet, but Tomaso confirmed the brand is closely following the EV landscape and intends to offer future tools for tuning, optimization and possibly diagnostics on those platforms, a long-term plan that balances today's opportunities with tomorrow's readiness.

Secure ECU protocols, global expansion, end-user innovation and forward-looking development all show AutoTuner is committed to shaping tuning's future, and doing it carefully.
