Viezu Dealer Webinar: Ask the Experts live Q&A panel with Paul Busby, Ian Armstrong and Brett Sheridan – Viezu USA

A look inside the first Viezu Dealer Q&A webinar, and why its takeaways matter to working tuning professionals.

Real-World Answers From Across the Industry

As part of Viezu Technologies' ongoing webinar program, we recently kicked off a new Dealer Q&A series with a live session devoted entirely to real questions from our worldwide network of professional tuners.

Many of our earlier webinars went deep on map writing, software techniques and technical demos. This one zoomed out to the wider industry, covering everything from launching a tuning business to choosing tools, marketing, diagnostics and best practice.

Paul Busby (CEO) hosted, joined by Simon White (Managing Director and Technical Director), Brett Sheridan (Marketing Manager) and Ian Armstrong (Head of Sales), bringing decades of combined experience.

Here are the main themes.

From Map Writing to Growing a Business

Our webinars have traditionally centered on detailed technical training, including live map writing in WinOLS and other pro software. Lately, though, dealers have been sending us bigger-picture questions:

  • How do I get started in tuning the right way?
  • Should I buy a Master tool right away?
  • Which tuning tool is best?
  • How do I bring in more local leads?
  • How do I avoid expensive mistakes?

This first Q&A was built to answer exactly those. Watch the video

Getting Started: Take a Structured Route

A big recurring topic was how to break into tuning safely and professionally. Forums often tell newcomers to jump straight to a Master tool and full file-writing software, but our advice was clear: if you're new, think about starting as a dealer on a client/Slave system. That gives you:

  • Less money at risk up front
  • Access to professional file support
  • Structured onboarding and training
  • Lower technical risk
  • A clear upgrade path when your business is ready

For many shops, that's a more sustainable base to build on.

Choosing Tools: Match the Gear to Your Market

Another hot question: "What's the best tuning tool?" Honestly, no single tool covers every platform perfectly. Each has strengths in areas such as:

  • Newer locked ECUs
  • EV platforms
  • Commercial vehicles
  • Older back-catalog vehicles

The right choice depends on the vehicles and customers in your area. As businesses grow, many shops end up running several tools for flexibility and coverage.

Marketing: Winning Local Leads

The panel also tackled the business realities of running a tuning shop. With digital marketing costs climbing, practical strategies included:

  • Skipping unplanned "boosted posts"
  • Running targeted ad campaigns
  • Using geographic signals in your online content
  • Defining clear selling points

Marketing should be planned, measurable and tailored to your local market.

Technical Discipline: Avoiding Preventable Mistakes

Arguably the most useful part of the session focused on common errors and best practice, and the theme was discipline:

  • Always use stable battery support
  • Don't rush reads and writes
  • Read tool prompts carefully and never update a tool mid-process
  • Call support before going further if you're unsure

Plenty of problems in this industry come from avoidable process mistakes, not complex technical faults.

Automated vs Manual File Quality

As ECU software grows more complex, the panel also discussed the risk of leaning too hard on automated file processes. Automation has its uses, but newer software versions can move data locations and structures between calibrations, so manual validation and quality control are still essential for reliability and safety.

Training and Professional Development

The webinar also pointed to ongoing development options: online and in-person courses, training programs in the UK and USA, and open-day visits to Viezu HQ. Continuous learning is still at the heart of long-term success in professional tuning.

The First of Many

This session launches a regular Dealer Q&A series within the wider Viezu webinar program. Alongside technical map writing sessions and advanced workshops, these Q&As will keep tackling the commercial, technical and strategic questions modern tuning businesses face.
