Step by Step: Unlocking a Bosch MD1CS003 With FLEX Boot Glitch (Free Video)

Step by Step: Unlocking a Bosch MD1CS003 With FLEX Boot Glitch (Free Video) – Viezu USA

This article was adapted for drivers and tuning professionals in the United States by Viezu USA. Measurements are shown in US units alongside the originals.

With Magic Motorsport's FLEX Boot Glitch, pro tuning shops can unlock compatible Bosch MD1 and MG1 ECUs on their own FLEX gear.

To show what's really involved, the Viezu tech team recorded a free hands-on video covering the main stages of a Boot Glitch unlock on a Bosch MD1CS003.

It goes inside the ECU and shows how the unit is prepped, wired up and unlocked, then readied for reading and writing down the line.

What Is the FLEX Boot Glitch Unlock?

Some late-model Bosch MD1 and MG1 ECUs carry advanced security that blocks normal programming access. Historically, that meant shipping certain ECUs to an outside specialist to be unlocked before a shop could read or program them.

Boot Glitch lets you unlock compatible ECUs right on the FLEX tool.

The first unlock happens in Boot mode. Once that succeeds, the ECU can be set up for later reading and writing using the supported FLEX connection method.

For a tuning business, it's a more controlled process. The ECU stays with you, and you avoid the extra handling and turnaround of sending compatible units elsewhere.

Watch the MD1CS003 Unlock

In the free video, our team shows each main stage on a Bosch MD1CS003:

  • Opening the ECU
  • Finding the right resistor
  • Temporarily removing it
  • Hooking up the FLEX Boot and Bench cables
  • Launching the Boot Glitch unlock
  • Checking the ECU after the unlock
  • Reinstalling the resistor
  • Getting the ECU ready for reading and writing

It gives FLEX users a realistic look at the equipment, prep and care required before trying it themselves. Watch the video

Opening and Prepping the ECU

Everything starts with carefully opening the ECU.

Doing this right matters. Damage to the case, board or internal parts can cause trouble before the unlock even begins, so use proper tools, a clean bench and a careful hand.

With the ECU open, identify the correct connection points and components using the current instructions in the FLEX software.

On the MD1CS003 in the video, one specific surface-mount resistor has to come off temporarily as part of the prep.

It's a tiny part, so you'll need the right soldering gear and experience on ECU boards. Take care not to damage the resistor, the parts around it or the board.

Hooking Up the FLEX Tool

With the ECU prepped, make the FLEX Boot and Bench connections.

The FLEX software provides the wiring diagram and instructions for the chosen ECU protocol. Check them before you apply power or start the unlock.

The video shows the physical MD1CS003 setup, including the ECU connections, FLEX hardware and cables used.

Connections differ a lot from one ECU model to the next. Never assume the hookup for one MD1 or MG1 ECU carries over to another.

Always confirm the exact ECU model and follow the current FLEX instructions for that specific protocol.

Running the Boot Glitch Procedure

Once the ECU and FLEX tool are hooked up correctly, start the Boot Glitch procedure from the FLEX software.

The software then talks to the ECU and completes the security unlock. How long it takes depends on the ECU, the software version and the individual unit.

Keep the ECU and tool on a stable power supply throughout. Leave cables, adapters and ECU connections alone until the software says the job is done.

Follow the on-screen FLEX instructions to the letter. A power interruption, the wrong connection points or a change to the setup mid-process could put the ECU at risk.

Checking and Reassembling the ECU

When the unlock finishes, check the ECU before putting it back into normal programming use.

In the MD1CS003 job shown, the resistor that came off goes back on carefully, and the board is inspected to make sure it's secure and nothing nearby was disturbed.

Then connect the ECU using the relevant supported FLEX method and confirm communication.

With communication confirmed, you can move on to the reading, backup and writing operations the chosen protocol supports.

Clean and reseal the case properly before the ECU goes back in the vehicle, to keep moisture, dirt and contamination away from the electronics.

When It Goes Wrong

Boot Glitch is a specialist procedure, not a simple software task.

We've had ECUs come to Viezu after failed unlock attempts elsewhere. In one recent case, the unit had been opened and worked on incorrectly, leaving damaged connections and messy soldering around the affected parts.

Our team carefully cleaned the board, repaired the damaged area and finished the unlock successfully.

It's a reminder of why the right tools, connection data and electronics skills matter so much. One slip with a tiny component, solder pad or connection point can turn an unlock into a far more involved ECU repair.

If you're not comfortable opening ECUs, removing and replacing surface-mount components or following Boot wiring diagrams, Viezu can do it for you.

Viezu MDG1 ECU Unlock Service

Shops that would rather not do the Boot Glitch themselves can use our in-house MDG1 ECU unlock service.

Drop the ECU off with Viezu or ship it to our tech team. We'll confirm compatibility, perform the unlock and prepare it for the supported reading and writing method. Contact us for current pricing; ECUs sent by mail carry an additional return shipping charge.

Terms and conditions apply. Compatibility has to be confirmed before you ship or bring in the ECU, so send clear photos of the ECU label and full vehicle details so our team can check the unit before booking the job.

If an ECU has already been opened, modified or damaged in an earlier attempt, it may need extra inspection or repair. We'll discuss any additional work or charges after assessing its condition.

Why Do the Unlock In-House?

Bringing compatible MD1 and MG1 unlock work into your own shop can improve how you handle these jobs. Potential upsides:

  • The ECU never leaves your shop
  • Less dependence on outside unlock services
  • No extra shipping and handling
  • Better control over scheduling
  • Faster turnaround for customers
  • More modern vehicles your business can tune
  • More value from the FLEX gear and protocols you already own

It does take real technical skill, ECU handling experience and the right equipment. Only techs comfortable opening ECUs, identifying electronic components and working with Boot connections should attempt it.

If your shop doesn't have that experience yet, our unlock service is a practical option.

Confirm Compatibility First

Boot Glitch support depends on the ECU family, processor and software protocol.

Before you take on a vehicle or pull its ECU, check the exact ECU ID against the latest Magic Motorsport FLEX vehicle and protocol information.

Our team can help FLEX users confirm compatibility, find the right protocol and understand which cables, adapters or software packages are needed. We support shops buying their first FLEX, current FLEX users expanding their services, and tuners who'd rather have Viezu handle the unlock.
