Considering a Magic Motorsport FLEX, or just got one? We've rounded up the questions tuners ask us most, from what the tool can do to day-to-day ownership, so you can see how it could add value to your tuning business.
Who Is Magic Motorsport?
Magic Motorsport is an Italian company that designs and builds electronic programming tools for the automotive industry, and it has become a major name in chiptuning and mechatronics. Pros around the world use its products to read and write data on engine control units (ECUs) and transmission control units (TCUs) for performance tuning, repairs and other modifications.
The company has a reputation for innovative tools that are both powerful and easy to use. Its hardware and software range covers everything from basic OBD programming to advanced Bench and Bootloader work, and constant development keeps its supported vehicle list large and growing.

What's in the FLEX Tuning Start-Up Kit?
Designed by Viezu as a "business in a box," the kit gives a professional everything needed to start remapping right away: the core FLEX hardware, a full year of software subscriptions and a pro battery stabilizer to keep the vehicle's power steady while you tune. You also get expert Viezu Technical Academy training (online or in person), a bundle of free tuning file credits and seven-day-a-week tech support to get your business off to a fast start.
Want a complete shop setup? The upgraded Xtra Start-Up Kit adds Boot and TCU (transmission) protocols, extra diagnostic equipment and marketing materials. Both kits come with flexible financing options for a pro tuning setup at a low weekly cost.
Mobile mechanic or established garage, these bundles save you a lot compared with buying each part separately, and they offer a proven path into vehicle tuning. Explore our Magic Motorsport Tuning Start-Up Kits

Which Connection Modes Does FLEX Support?
Three:
OBD:
The simplest route, plugging straight into the diagnostic port. It's a fast, efficient way to read and write ECU data without removing the unit.
Bench:
For ECUs that can't be done over OBD, Bench lets you work directly on the ECU without opening it. It's quicker and less invasive than Boot.
Boot:
The most advanced mode, reaching the ECU's deepest memory. You open the ECU and connect directly to the circuit board. Bootloader access is essential for cloning and repairing ECUs, especially modern units with anti-tuning protection.
How Is FLEX Powered?
It depends on the connection. Over OBD, the vehicle's diagnostic port powers the tool. In Bench or Boot mode, you need a 12V/14V power supply (included in the Magic Motorsport start-up kit). Always run a quality battery stabilizer or regulated supply during reads and writes to hold voltage steady, because a power dip can cause a failed write and potentially "brick" the ECU.
FLEX Master vs FLEX Slave: What's the Difference?
A Master reads and writes unencrypted files, so you can edit them yourself in separate software. A Slave reads and writes encrypted files tied to one particular Master: you send the read to your Master, who decrypts, modifies and re-encrypts it before sending it back. Slave is a great starting point for new tuners thanks to a lower upfront cost and a gentler learning curve.
Can I Start With Slave and Upgrade to Master Later?
With Viezu, yes. You'll pay a "Slave to Master" transfer fee and buy Master-level protocols, and your current Master (Viezu) has to agree to release the tool before the upgrade goes ahead.

How Do I Update FLEX?
It's easy, because the software is cloud-based. Each time you open the FLEX SW (software) on your PC, it checks for the newest version and prompts you to download and install any update before continuing. That keeps your vehicle protocols and security patches current. You'll need an internet connection and an active FLEX subscription.
What Warranty Does FLEX Carry?
Magic Motorsport gives FLEX hardware a Limited Lifetime Warranty as long as your MMS.care (subscription) account stays active. Let the subscription lapse for more than seven days and lifetime cover is lost, reverting to a standard 24-month warranty from the original activation date. It covers defects in materials and workmanship, not physical damage, liquid damage or misuse.
Is FLEX Durable?
It's built to handle heavy shop use, but how long it lasts depends on how you treat it. Hardware quality is only half of it; your setup decides reliability.
Shop Best Practices
- Quality cables: Use short, high-quality leads for better signal integrity and so long cables don't tug on the ports.
- Look after the ports: Don't strain the USB or power sockets. Keeping connections tension-free protects the internal solder joints.
- Clean bench: Metal filings and shop grime are the quickest way to kill a tool.
- Steady power: A regulated supply protects both FLEX and the ECU from voltage spikes mid-flash.
FLEX is tough, but these simple habits are the difference between a tool that lasts one year and one that lasts ten.
Is a FLEX Subscription Required?
Yes. Magic Motorsport tools like FLEX need an annual subscription, which gets you the latest software updates, new protocols and tech support. Some competing tools have no subscription fees, but for a professional business, continuous updates and Magic Motorsport support are a big part of the value.
What Does a FLEX Subscription Cost?
Viezu's renewal pricing depends on whether you run a Master or a Slave tool and which protocols are active. Renewal options include:
FLEX Slave renewals
- Magic FLEX Slave Full Subscription
- Magic FLEX Slave OBD & Bench Subscription
FLEX Master renewals
- Magic FLEX Master Full Subscription
- Magic FLEX Master OBD & Bench Subscription
Note: Each renewal covers 12 months, keeping your protocols active and your software up to date. Contact us for current US pricing.

What Happens if My Subscription Expires?
The tool keeps working, but only with protocols released before your expiration date. You lose access to new vehicle updates, cloud services and tech support, and the lifetime warranty drops back to a standard limited term. Buy the Magic Motorsport FLEX
Where Can I Get FLEX Training?
Viezu offers in-person classroom FLEX training at our UK headquarters and at set locations around the world, plus online courses through Remap101, our dedicated vehicle tuning training company and home of the Viezu Technical Academy. Courses run from basic OBD connections to advanced Bench and Bootloader techniques. Because we use tools like FLEX in our own shop every day, the training is practical and grounded in real-world experience, not just theory.
Our free online training videos show the correct way to use FLEX for each connection type: FLEX OBD Tuning Online Training Course, FLEX Boot Tuning Online Training Course and FLEX Bench Tuning Online Training Course.

How Do I Add Protocols to My FLEX?
FLEX is "flexible" by design. Start with basic OBD protocols and add more as you grow. Just buy the activation you want (TCU/transmission or Full Master/Slave, for example) through the Viezu shop. Once the order goes through, the new protocols are tied to your tool's serial number and appear the next time you sync the software.
Where's the FLEX Vehicle List?
The most up-to-date list lives here: Magic Motorsport FLEX Vehicle List
It's a live database you can search by make, model or ECU part number. It also shows which connection method (OBD, Bench or Boot) a vehicle needs and whether a full clone is possible.
Does FLEX Work on 24V Vehicles?
Yes. The hardware handles both 12V and 24V systems, making it popular with tuners working on trucks, tractors and heavy equipment, as long as the right protocols are activated.
Is FLEX Better Than Autotuner or Alientech KESS3?
That depends on your business goals, but the Magic Motorsport FLEX does have a clear edge in technical areas where other tools can struggle.
Autotuner is known for its no-subscription model and Alientech KESS3 for its huge legacy vehicle list, while FLEX is widely regarded as the leader for mechatronics and advanced cloning.
Where FLEX Pulls Ahead
- Cloning: A must for repair and hardware replacement. Full Bench clones move every bit of data from a damaged ECU or TCU onto a donor unit, and the process is arguably the most stable in the industry. KESS3 and Autotuner can clone too, but FLEX and its dedicated Flexbox hardware deliver a level of precision and diagnostic feedback that makes complex cloning much safer.
- TCU (transmission) tuning: If you want to specialize in DSG or ZF 8HP transmission tuning, FLEX is the stronger choice, with more complete TCU support than almost anything else available. Reading and writing transmission controllers over the diagnostic port or on the bench is extremely robust.
- Bench stability: FLEX was among the first tools to really nail Bench mode (tuning without opening the ECU), and that head start has produced a very mature, stable platform. The hardware checks for connection errors before writing begins, greatly reducing brick risk compared with interfaces that do less diagnosis.
- Modular setup: Unlike Autotuner, an all-in purchase, FLEX lets you pick and choose. Start lower by activating only the protocols you use, then add Boot or Full Bench as your skills and customer base grow.
